SceneDeck for Android

Privacy Policy

Last updated:

SceneDeck is an Android remote control for OBS Studio, developed by worxbend (package com.worxbend.scenedeck). This policy explains how the app handles information when you connect to OBS, customize your deck, or use optional features.

SceneDeck does not require an account and does not operate a developer server that receives your OBS data. Connection settings and deck customizations stay on your device. The QR scanner uses Google ML Kit, which collects technical diagnostics as described below.

Information the app handles

  • Connection settings: profile names, OBS host addresses, ports, saved passwords, and profile creation and last-used times. These are stored locally to save and reconnect to your OBS setup. Saved passwords are encrypted using a key held in Android Keystore.
  • OBS information: scene and source names, scene relationships, audio levels and settings, stream and recording status, performance readings, and diagnostic results. The app exchanges commands and status directly with the OBS server you select to provide remote controls, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Scene previews: when previews are enabled, the app requests images from OBS. These images can contain whatever your OBS scenes show. Previews are held in memory for display, without being uploaded to the developer.
  • Preferences and curation: theme and behavior settings, scene roles, colors, icons, ordering, and widget settings are stored locally to personalize your deck.
  • QR pairing: camera frames are processed on your device to read connection QR codes. A code can contain an OBS host, port, profile name, and password. The app does not save or upload camera frames; connection details can become a saved local profile.

Permissions and optional features

Network access allows SceneDeck to connect to your chosen OBS server. Camera permission is requested for QR pairing; you can enter connection details manually instead and revoke camera access in Android settings. The app does not request microphone, contacts, or location permissions.

Optional notifications and a foreground service support an OBS connection while the app is in the background. If enabled, the app continues exchanging OBS commands and status until you disconnect or stop the background connection. Notifications and the home-screen widget may display scene names or connection status on your device.

Registry import and export use Android’s document picker to read or write a file you select, rather than requesting access to all files.

Sharing and third-party services

SceneDeck does not sell your information, show advertisements, or include a separate advertising or analytics service. OBS data is exchanged with the server you configure. Starting a stream or recording instructs OBS on your computer; the destinations and storage you configure in OBS govern that content.

The QR scanner includes Google’s bundled ML Kit barcode library. Google documents collection of device and app information, per-installation identifiers, performance metrics, API configuration, input and output sizes, feature versions, events, and error codes for diagnostics and usage analytics. This technical data is sent to Google over HTTPS; Google states that ML Kit does not transfer it to third parties. Camera images are processed on the device. See ML Kit’s data disclosure and Google’s Privacy Policy.

If you export your scene registry, the file contains scene names and curation settings, without OBS passwords or connection profiles. Your chosen document provider may store the file locally or in cloud storage under its own policy. Sharing the file is your choice.

If you contact the developer through GitHub, GitHub processes your account details and submitted content under its privacy policy. Public issues are visible to others.

Storage and connection security

Saved profiles, preferences, and scene curation use the app’s private Android storage. Saved OBS passwords are encrypted at rest. The app disables Android backup and excludes its data from cloud backup and device transfer.

The normal OBS WebSocket connection uses ws://, which does not encrypt network traffic. Password authentication does not encrypt commands, status, or previews. Use a trusted private network or a protected network tunnel, and avoid exposing the OBS WebSocket port to the public internet.

Retention, deletion, and your choices

Saved profiles and preferences remain on your device until you remove them or clear the app’s data. Delete a connection in More → Connections to remove that profile and its saved password. Clear SceneDeck’s storage in Android’s app settings, or uninstall the app, to remove its local data. No SceneDeck account or developer-held OBS data needs a separate deletion request.

Scene previews and rolling performance history are temporary in-memory data. Closing the app’s process removes them. Clearing or uninstalling the app does not delete your OBS scenes, recordings, or exported files; delete exported files separately through your chosen document provider.

The developer does not control retention of ML Kit diagnostics held by Google or information you submit to GitHub. Their privacy policies explain available controls and retention practices. You can contact the developer with questions about your information or applicable privacy rights.
